‘Descendants of the Sun’ star Jennylyn Mercado, director formally accept Seoul International Award
“Descendants of the Sun” star Jennylyn Mercado and director Dominic Zapata have formally accepted the Kapuso drama’s Most Popular Foreign Drama of the Year award from the recently concluded 15th Seoul International Drama Awards.
Jennylyn and Dominic expressed their gratitude to the Seoul International Drama Awards committee in a pre-recorded message that was shared on Korean network MBC’s YouTube channel.
"I would like to thank Seoul International Drama Awards for awarding our show, 'Descendants of the Sun,' as the Most Popular Foreign Drama for 2020,” Jennylyn said.
“We are so sorry we couldn't make it to the awards ceremony but nonetheless its truly an honor that our love and passion of telling stories through television is recognized internationally,” she added.
Dominic likewise gave a short speech, thanking the Seoul International Drama Awards committee on behalf of the creative team, staff and crew, and the management of GMA Network.
In the Philippine adaptation of “Descendants of the Sun,” Jennylyn Mercado plays the female lead, Dr. Maxine, while Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes plays “Big Boss” Captain Lucas.
Dingdong also won the prestigious Asian Star Prize award for his role.
The award-winning Kapuso drama’s cast also includes Rocco Nacino, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Lucho Ayala, Paul Salas, John Lucas, Prince Clemente, Pancho Magno, and more went through months of intense training for the roles.
