‘Babae at Baril’ starring Janine Gutierrez to open New York Asian Film Festival
“Babae at Baril” starring Janine Gutierrez will be the opening film at this year’s New York Asian Film Festival.
The psycho-thriller directed by Rae Red follows a department store saleslady who finds a peculiar-looking gun on her doorstep and realizes that she can do whatever she wants.
Janine happily shared the news about the NYAFF on Instagram, saying: “‘Babae at Baril’ is going to New York.”
The Kapuso actress also posted the “Babae at Baril” trailer and congratulated the “female-led” team behind the film.
“So excited and soo fffffing wish we could actually go to NY for the North American premiere at the NYAFF but, nonetheless congrats to the team!” Janine wrote.
“Babae at Baril is available in the Philippines on Cignal Play streaming. I hope you get to see it. So proud to be part of this female-led team,” she added.
NYAFF, which has opted to go virtual this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic, will open on Aug. 28 and run until Sept. 12.
“Babae at Baril,” which premiered at the QCinema International Film Festival last year, was written and directed by Filipino director Rae Red, who also won Best Director of QCinema 2019.
Aside from Janine, who won QCinema’s Best Actress award, the movie also stars Felix Roco, JC Santos, and Elijah Canlas. – Margaret Claire Layug/RC, GMA News
