Philippine adaptation of 'Descendants of the Sun' wins Most Popular Foreign Drama of the Year in 15th Seoul Int'l Drama Awards

GMA Network's Philippine adaptation of "Descendants of the Sun" wins the Most Popular Foreign Drama of the Year trophy in the 15th Seoul International Drama Awards.

GMA Network announced the good news on social media Monday.

The Filipino remake of "Descendants of the Sun" stars Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes and Jennylyn Mercado.

According to a report in Hello KPop, the Philippine version of KBS' drama Descendants of the Sun was chosen because it highlighted the influence of K-drama across borders.

Along with GMA Network's remake of "Descendants of the Sun," Director Bong Joon-ho's remake of "Snowpiecer" is also listed among the three winners of the Foreign Dramas of the Year award.

The report said it is an example of K-content's influence that extends beyond Asia into the US market. It was selected as the "Most Popular Foreign Drama of the Year with worldwide acclaim."

Additionally, the mini-series "The New Pope" produced by Sky Atlantic and HBO and distributed by Fremantle starring Jude Law depicting social issues from the pope's perspective has also been invited under the same category.

On his Instagram account, Dingdong said he was "a proud member of Team DOTS here! Congratulations to the men and women behind the show!"
