Mikael shares awkward first encounter with Marian Rivera

Mikael Daez admitted he had no idea on how big his fellow Kapuso Marian Rivera was when he was first starting out in the industry.

On their latest podcast episode, Mikael shared the story of his first awkward encounter with the Kapuso Primetime Queen. It was during his first-ever audition for television series "Amaya."

Before he went into the studio, he said some of the staff were telling him that he will be meeting Marian RIvera.

"I think they were saying 'this is Marian Rivera' and it was not registering to me because I had no idea how big she was at that time, because I didn't know anything about show business," he narrated.

Mikael admitted that all he knew about Marian then was that "she had a billboard at EDSA at that time and she was pretty. 'Yun lang rumehistro when they said her name," he added.

Admitting he was being a jerk at that time, Mikael responded saying, "yeah, ok sure. I'll greet her. I was trying to be nice. I wasn't trying to be mean but because of my unawareness and ignorance, I came off as very fresh. Masyadong presko masyadong komportable bigla na dapat marunong ako lumugar...parang at home na at home ka dito," Mikael said.

As he went inside the room, he saw Marian. "She said, 'Hi ako si Marian,' sabi niya. And then she extended her hand."

According to Mikael, he replied "Hey sup. I'm Mik" taking Marian's hand to give her a cool handshake instead of a formal one, and he casually left.

Megan said, she was incredulous the first time she heard the story. "Are you serious that you met 'The Marian Rivera' and you just said that to her and you gave her like a cool handshake?"

Mikael compared it to like going into the NBA and casually shrugging off a greeting from Lebron James.

"Imagine going into the NBA and your first game is with Lebron James, and Lebron tries to give you a high five and you just say, 'hi bro, sup' and leave," Mikael said.

He said he eventually became friends with Marian and even learned a lot of things about the importance of knowing how to socialize with the people you work with.

"Just getting to know people and knowing how to get to know people... being aware of who is who. I realized the importance of that early on. Actually I would like to go back and say thank you one of the people I learned that from is Marian Rivera her professionalism is exemplary," he said. — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/LA, GMA News
