Boobay says his standup comedy career in Manila began at Klownz

Comedian Boobay has shared that he started his standup comedy journey in Manila with the help of Klownz, Allan K’s comedy bar which has permanently shut down.

During Eat Bulaga!’s “Bawal Judgmental” segment on Saturday, Boobay said he began his career as a standup comedian in Baguio in 2006.

After graduating from college in 2009, he met comedian Ate Gay who invited him to come to Manila.

“Sabi niya, ‘baba ka dito. Pakikilala kita kay Ms Allan K,’” said Boobay.

“So from Baguio bumaba ako para mag-audition sa Klownz tapos ayun luckily natanggap ako.”

Allan K’s comedy bars Zirkoh and Klowz closed after the comedian filed for bankruptcy amid the uncertainty brought by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

More than 100 employees of the two bars are expected to lose their jobs due to the closure. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
