Spencer Reyes now a frontliner in Scotland, drives doctors and nurses to hospitals

Spencer Reyes is one of the many Filipino showbiz personalities who have become frontliners amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

In an episode of "Kapuso Mo, Jessic Soho," the former "Streetboys" member shared that he now drives a bus to take doctors and nurses to their workplaces in Scotland.

"Pag nasa bus ako naka-full PPE ako. For three weeks 'yun lang hahawakan mong bus," he said.

Spencer finished nursing in 2004. Four years later, he moved to the United Kingdom and worked at a nursing home so he can provide for his family.

"Sinacrifice ko 'yung showbiz, 'yung career ko diyan. Masakit, ang dami kong iniwan especially mga mahal ko sa buhay. Back to zero ako," he said.

His efforts paid off, however, as he was able to bring his family to England after a year of working. They lived there for 10 years before moving to Scotland.

Spencer's wife later found him an opportunity to become a bus driver, which he has been doing for two years now.

"Sabi ko yan ok 'yan kasi di ako maselan. I want to prove to myself na kaya ko mag-progress," he said.

But getting the job was no easy process for Spencer as he had to go through an exam and six months training.

"Ang examination dito napakahirap. Dalawang beses lang po kayo magta-try. Pag hindi po kayo pumasa nang dalawang beses, di na kayo makakapag-drive," he said.

The former dancer said he takes pride in his job as a frontliner.

"Dito meron silang clapping respect for the frontliners, lahat ng tao lalabas papalakpakan ka. Ang sarap ng feeling kasi ako nagda-drive tapos lahat ng tao nakatingin tapos papalakpak sa 'yo," he said.

Other Pinoy celebrities who now serve as frontliners are Jacque Estevez, Carol Banawa, Princess Punzalan, and Ronnie Liang, among others. —Jannielyn Bigtas/MGP, GMA News
