COVID-19 survivor Christopher de Leon to donate plasma to help cure other patients
After testing negative for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Christopher de Leon said he will donate his plasma to help cure other patients with the virus.
In a report by Nelson Canlas on 24 Oras said, the actor said he will have to go through a process before he donates his plasma.
De Leon was the first celebrity in the Philippines to announce that he tested positive for COVID-19 on March 17.
On March 25, the actor was discharged from the hospital and was welcomed home by Sandy. However, he was required to go on self-isolation.
Other local celebrities who tested positive with COVID-19 include Iza Calzado and Sylvia Sanchez, who have now tested negative for COVID-19.
Just like de Leon, Iza said she is also planning to donate her plasma to help in possibly treating other patients who are still fighting the disease.
PGH has called on COVID-19 survivors to donate blood to patients in critical condition in an attempt to treat severe cases with convalescent plasma transfusion.
In a report on 24 Oras, PGH spokesman Dr. Jonas Del Rosario explained that patients who survived the disease have formed antibodies in their blood.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines has reached 6,087 with 516 recoveries and 397 deaths. — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/LA, GMA News
