Arjo Atayde says parents 'slowly getting better' after testing positive for COVID-19
Arjo Atayde and his family are asking for prayers as his mom Sylvia Sanchez and dad Art Atayde recover from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The actor gave an update on his parents' status on Instagram, saying they were still on the road to recovery.
"A week into their self-isolation and a week after having their swab tests done, our parents are slowly getting better. Although it’s taking longer than their usual recovery time, we are happy to see them with their spirits still high," he wrote.
Sylvia announced that she and her husband tested positive for COVID-19 last Tuesday.
In his lengthy post, Arjo, on behalf of his siblings Ria, Gela and Xavi, took the opportunity to thank those who have extended their prayers and well wishes for their family.
"Before anything else, we’d like to thank everyone for their overwhelming love and support. Although it is difficult and anxiety-inducing knowing that both our parents are positive with COVID-19, all the well wishes and get well soon messages have definitely uplifted our family — especially them," the actor said.
Arjo also expressed his gratefulness that "no one that they have come in contact with before the quarantine and no one else here at home" are showing symptoms so far.
"We ask that you continue to pray for our parents, our household that nobody else contracted it, every other individual and family dealing with this same ordeal and of course, all our frontliners who continue to risk their lives everyday for our safety," he said.
"Please all stay safe, healthy, take your vitamins and stay at home if you have the option," he added.
As of Wednesday, a total of 2,311 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Philippines.
Sylvia was the third celebrity to test positive for the virus, after Iza Calzado and Christopher de Leon, who are now both recovering.
Talent manager Noel Ferrer had announced on Monday that Iza's retest results show she's now negative for COVID-19 and could go home after finishing her IV antibiotics, whereas Christopher has been discharged from the hospital.
