Singer Joey Bautista died due to COVID-19, wife says


Joey Bautista, the lead singer of rock band Mulatto, died due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), his wife Belinda Bagatsing announced.

In a Facebook post, Belinda shared that Joey passed away on Thursday with everyone thinking that it was caused by pneumonia. However, Belinda shared that his COVID-19 test results came on Friday and confirmed he was positive for the disease.

"As you know my husband Joey Bautista passed away yesterday due to pneumonia. He passed away not knowing the result of his COVID-19 swab test. Today i was informed the his official test result came out, positive COVID-19," she wrote.

She advised everyone who had been around them for the last 30 days to monitor themselves and get help should they not feel well.

She also assured the public that she has no known symptoms and has been under quarantine for 21 days.

The Philippines has reported 307 confirmed cases and 19 deaths due to COVID-19.

President Rodrigo Duterte placed the country under a state of calamity, and Luzon under an enhanced community quarantine to curb the spread of the disease.
