8 movies make it to the first MMFF 2020 summer edition


Of the 24 films submitted, eight movies made it to first-ever summer edition of the MMFF. 

On Monday, the MMFF announced the official entries to the summer edition of the MMFF, which will take place from April 11 to 21 in cinemas nationwide. They are below.

Here are the eight official entries:

1. "A Hard Day" by Lawrence Fajardo

This Filipino adaptation of the hit Korean action film stars none other than Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes.

2. "Tagpuan" by McArthur Alejandre

This romantic movie stars Alfred Vargas, Shaina Magdayao and Iza Calzado.

3. "Love the Way U Lie" by RC delos Reyes

It is a romantic comedy and fantasy film which stars Alex Gonzaga and Xian Lim.

4. "Isa Pang Bahaghari" by Joel Lamangan

Veteran actors Philip Salvador and Nora Aunor hits the big screen anew as they star in this family drama movie.

5. "Love or Money" by Mae Czarina Cruz-Alviar

This feel-good romantic comedy movie stars Angelica Panganiban and Coco Martin.

6. "Coming Home" by Adolfo Alix, Jr.

Various actors such as Jinggoy Estrada, Martin del Rosario, Edgar Allan Guzman, Vin Abrenica, Sylvia Sanchez, Ara Arida, Shaira Diaz and Samantha Lopez will star in this family drama film.

7. "Ngayon Kaya" by Prime Cruz

This romantic film stars Paulo Avelino, Janine Gutierrez, John James Uy, Rio Locsin, Alwyn Uytingco and Donna Cariaga.

8. "The Missing" by Easy Ferrer

And of course, the MMFF is not complete without a horror film. This movie stars Joseph Marco and Ritz Azul.

These eight entries were chosen from 24 film submissions.

The criteria used for selecting the films for the competition are:

  • 40% artistic excellence
  • 40% commercial appeal
  • 10% Filipino values
  • 10% global appeal

The film festival, headed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) was traditionally held every year during the Christmas season.

In July 2018, Senator and MMFF Executive Committee member Christopher "Bong" Go suggested to do the MMFF twice a year. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/LA, GMA News
