New GMA show 'Centerstage' taps resident psychologist for kid contestants

GMA-7's newest musical reality show "Centerstage", with its one-of-a-kind interactive scoring system, will be gathering young aspiring performers aged 7 to 12 years old from all over the country.

Since there will be only one winner during the competition, "Centerstage" has made efforts to help the young contestants deal with any foreseeable disappointments.

"Centerstage" host Alden Richards shared during the show's media conference in GMA Network on Thursday that the show will be having its own psychologist to help.

Aicelle Santos, one of the judges of "Centerstage," added: "We have a resident psychologist here para sa mga bata and for the parents as well."

"Centerstage" judges Pops Fernandez and Mel Villena also vowed to be as encouraging as possible to the kids.

Pops said, "It's hard to judge especially in a contest syempre there will always be the winner and there will be the others who will get disappointed so mahirap din."

"Ayoko ma-disappoint sila to the point na titigil na nila 'yung dream nila sa pagkanta so we wanna be as encouraging and inspiring as much as possible," she added.

Aicelle also shared that since they're young and their talents are very raw, there's still so much time and space for them to improve with time and experience.

Mel added, "It's easier if adults but sa murang pag-iisip we just have to choose what we say."

Alden also shared that "Centerstage" will only host children for now, but the show can later on progress into a much older age group.

With Alden and Betong Sumaya as hosts, "Centerstage" is set to air every Sunday starting February 16. —Kaela Malig/JST, GMA News
