Michelle Dee reveals how her late lola inspired her to give back to others

Before jumping in head first into pageant craziness, Michelle Dee marked the anniversary of her grandmother's death five years ago.

During the Miss World 2019 Head to Head Challenge, the Philippines' representative revealed that it was her lola's death anniversary prior to her arrival in London, where the pageant will be held.

"When she was on Earth, she was an angel on Earth. She passed away five years ago, it was her death anniversary prior to coming here," she said.

Michelle said she was inspired by her grandmother to give back to others because it was what the latter made sure to do when she was alive.

"She founded this foundation called Inner Peace Foundation. It's basically a group of people that come together to share their experiences and to just help each other grow, and it's been in existence for more than I've been alive," she said.

"It's just so humbling to have that kind of values and qualities that raise you because it really gives you a sense of purpose, a sense of belonging and a sense that you really just want to give back to people that helped you," she added.

Michelle said she developed her relationship with her grandmother when she moved back to the Philippines at the age of 15.
