Sunshine Cruz explains: Why daughters don't use Montano as screen names

Sunshine Cruz's three daughters, Angelina, Samantha and Chesca, do not use their father Cesar Montano's surname for their screen names.

On Wednesday, Sunshine explained that it was the idea of their manager Arnold Vegafria.

"Pinaalam kasi niya kasi 'yong careers nila they are more into singing, so we all know that the Cruzes are known musicians talaga," Sunshine said at a contract signing with Em-Core Dot Net, her first endorsement deal with her daughters.

"So I think it's the fault of Arnold," Sunshine joked.

Sunshine is a member of the Cruz family, which counts among its members celebrities with musical leanings including Tirso Cruz III, Sheryl Cruz, Timmy Cruz, and Donna Cruz.

"Like si Donna, Donna Yrastorza 'yan before pero she also use Cruz so musician kasi. I think Arnold no? This is an advantage for them," she said.

Sunshine said using Cruz is an advantage for her daughters, as Angelina recently signed with Universal Records. Her second daughter Sam will also be signing with the record label.

Arnold said he asked permission from Cesar during a trip to the United States.

"Nagkita kami sa Las Vegas... Sabi niya, 'It's OK anak ko pa rin 'yanm dugo ko pa rin 'yan.' Screen name lang naman 'yon eh," he explained to the press.

Sunshine's daughters share the same sentiments.

Angelina, 18, said she believes using Cruz would help her career in the music industry and reassured her surname hasn't been changed legally.

"I feel that  the screen name could actually help cause I feel that everyone in the industry has one so since our name is Cruz," she said. "Like Tita Donna Cruz, it's really Cruzes are musically inclined so I feel that it could help us but it's not our real name it's not legally changed or anything, it's just a screen name."

Sunshine's second daughter Sam, 15 and her youngest daughter Chesca, 13, said  they trust their mom and her manager's decision to use Cruz as their screen name.

It's been a little over a year since Sunshine announced that a court granted her petition for the annulment of her marriage to Cesar, the father of her three children.

Last September, Sunshine celebrated her third anniversary with partner Macky Mathay. —JST, GMA News
