Bubble Gang addresses criticism over 'sexy' girls on show

To celebrate its 24th anniversary, "Bubble Gang" will have a two-part telemovie special called "The ScAvengers" that will air on November 15 and 22.

At the press conference on Monday, the cast addressed some gender-sensitive issues as they took questions from entertainment reporters.

At one point, the female cast members were asked if there was ever an instance when they felt uncomfortable with a joke, given that actresses on the show sometimes wear revealing outfits or take part in sexy storylines.

Among those who shared their thoughts was Kapuso actress and model Kim Domingo, who acknowledged that she had a "pa-sexy" image since she began her career. "Nag-start talaga ako as pa-sexy so, from the very start, wala akong kumbaga restriction sa kung anumang isuot ko sa 'Bubble Gang'," she said.

Kim, however, emphasized that she's now especially grateful to work with Bubble Gang even now that the "sexy" aspect of her career has "toned down."

"Thankful po ako sa Bubble atsaka sa lahat ng bumubuo ng Bubble kasi nirespeto po nila 'yung kung anuman po 'yung gusto ko na pong mangyari ngayon. Napakalaking utang na loob ko talaga sa Bubble Gang na, until now, kahit na medyo nabawasan na 'yung pagpapasexy ko, andito pa rin po ako," she said.

Chariz Solomon, on the other hand, talked about the "freedom" actresses like herself enjoyed when they wear swimsuits on the show.

"Actually pinapabawasan pa yung akin eh," she joked, drawing laughter from the audience. "Ako kasi, I'm very comfortable with my skin."

Jokes aside, Chariz said: "Wala naman (problem) kasi dito, open naman 'yung communication namin. Healthy naman 'yung communication. Kung ano 'yung kumportable ka, go. You just tell them, mag-a-adjust naman."

Valeen Montenegro also weighed in, saying: "Wala namang masusulat 'yung writers, chaka 'yung prod na hindi puwedeng i-ere sa TV (or) hindi rin kami magiging comfortable sa mga mangyayari."

One of the main male cast members Paolo Contis also assured the audience: "Ang puno't dulo naman po, ang point naman po ng Bubble Gang ay magpatawa, hindi po mambastos."
