Kelvin Miranda will be starring in the first-ever Netflix film from the Philippines, "Dead Kids," directed by the young award-winning director Mikhail Red.
In an interview with GMA entertainment reporters on Tuesday, Kelvin said he is overjoyed to be in a film that can be streamed worldwide.
The Kapuso actor said the movie is a thriller crime about a group of friends who will kidnap one of their classmates from school in exchange for money from the student's parents.
Without giving away too much detail, Kelvin said the story is based on a real life incident that happened in the Philippines.
He will star as Mark Sta. Maria, the "Dead Kid."
"Tinatawag kasi ako na [Dead Kid] 'yong parang walang muang, binu-bully tapos medyo mababa 'yong estado ng buhay."
Kelvin said it is his first time to play an introvert role so it took him months to prepare and to get into character.
"Sobrang nakakatuwa po kasi first time ko pong mag-lead talaga sa pelikula, sa indie film nakakapag-lead naman pero 'eto kasi mainstream siya tapos hindi ko pa siya alam na Netflix," he shared.
Kelvin said the scenes they shot were so realistic to the point that it traumatized him.
How Kelvin got the role
The 20-year-old actor said he was supposed to audition for another film titled "Super Zeroes" and accidentally made it to the "Dead Kids" audition, instead.
Kelvin said it was only recently when he found out the "Dead Kids" will be on Netflix. He revealed that the initial plan was to have the film in Korean Film Festival and sell it to other countries.
Kelvin won Best Actor at the 6th Urduja festival for his portrayal in the indie film titled "The Fate." He is currently starring in the GMA-7 Afternoon Prime "Madrasta." — LA, GMA News
