5 things about Atong Ang we learned from his enlightening interview on Dobol A sa Dobol B

We all know Atong Ang is a rich businessman, but after clarifying his relations with some of the Barrettos — namely Gretchen, Claudine and Nicole — on Dobol A sa Dobol B on Monday morning, we learned there's more to him than just money and power.

We mean:

1. He's a helpful dude

When Claudine Barretto was having problems with a certain Martin Castro, it was Atong, with the help of Nicole Barretto's mother Marichi, who helped her.

"Si Claudine dinala sa 'kin ni Marichi dahil meron silang away ni Martin Castro before. 'Yung wife niya nagkakagulo magdedemandahan. Nagkataon si Martin kasi, anak ng kumpare ko si pareng Ronnie Castro, 'yong Mayor," Atong explained.

"Dinala sa 'kin si Claudine, ilang araw ko rin inayos 'yon. So ibig sabihin 'yong tungkol kay Claudine, nakikita kami ng mga tao. Nagi-interpret lang sila or nag-conclude sila na may relasyon kami," he said.

2. Atong is pretty friendly

Being friends with a lot of the Barrettos is probably how he got tangled in the mess in the first place.

But Atong revealed an interesting tidbit on radio this morning: when he makes friends, Atong said, he makes sure that he builds a close relationship with them.

This, he says, is probably why Nicole said what she said in the first place, which he understands by the way. “Maiintindihan ko rin kasi si Nicole kasi naging close kami,” Atong said.

This also explains the closeness between the Angs and their business partners, Gretchen and Tonyboy.

"Ngayon nung pumasok ako sa casino, 'yong family ko tsaka sila Tonyboy Cojuangco, sila Gretchen nagkaroon kami ng mga joint ventures. Magkakasosyo kami," he said.

In fact, Gretchen is close to his wife, he said, echoing Gretchen’s earlier claims that the Angs are family to her.

3. He's a family man

Atong "totally denied" the alleged affairs with the three Barrettos, saying he won't ruin his relationship with his family and wife for such intrigues.

"Totally dine-deny ko lang talaga 'yan, kasi bakit ka magsasalita ng kung ano-ano? Basta ang sa akin, happy ako sa pamilya ko, sa asawa ko," he said. "Masaya kaming lahat. Hindi ko ipagpapalit dito na sirain 'yong pamilya ko lalo na asawa ko para sa mga gulo-gulo lang."

He also said if the rumors were real he wouldn't bring the Barrettos and his family together in one room.

"Maliwanag naman na isinasama ko sila sa pamilya ko. Ibig sabihin makikita niyo doon na walang kalokohan," he said.

"Kung ipagpapalit mo sa iba, dapat hindi ko sila ipinagsasama-sama nang ganyan 'di ba? Unang una hindi naman kami nagsasama sa mga bahay-bahay wala naman kaming mga bahay. May kanya-kanya kaming buhay," he added.

4. Atong is like a father figure

It was Nicole's mom Marichi who assisted Atong with his businesses when he was starting all over again, after getting out of prison. It was mutually beneficial setup, the job helped fund Nicole's schooling.

When Nicole graduated, Atong took in Nicole to help him with his business. This led to the closeness between Nicole and Atong.

According to Atong, he's "very close" to Nicole. In fact, he treats Nicole like his own daughter.

"Talagang very close ako kay Nicole talaga naging parang anak ko na rin talaga 'yan talagang naging very close kami family. Eh minahal ko na naman 'yong family na 'yan magkasama naman kami before."

5. He believes there must be proof, always

When asked if he is in fact denying his alleged affairs with the three Barrettos, Atong said "Masasabi mo lang na girlfriend kapag nakapatong ka na diyan eh. Bakit ko naman na aaminin na ganon eh wala namang ganon? May nakakita ba? Eh wala naman gganon 'di ba?"

Atong was also asked for his opinion on rumors saying that Gretchen's partner Tonyboy allows her to see and have a relationship with Atong.

He said "Not unless si Tony ang nagsalita nun 'wag kayong maniwala unang una kung may gulo 'yan sa tingin mo ba magkakasama kaming lahat."

The controversies between the Barrettos and Atong came after Gretchen addressed allegations that she "stole" Atong from niece Nicole.

According to Gretchen, it was Nicole who "stole" Atong from Claudine.

It allegedly led to a physical confrontation between Gretchen and Nicole that supposedly happened during the wake of Miguel Barretto, Gretchen's father. — LA, GMA News
