Joyce Pring says ‘Unang Hirit’ stint came at a ‘dire time’; talks about insomnia, anxiety

Joyce Pring has been on GMA News' Unang Hirit for a year now, and the sight of the witty and talented host first thing in the morning has brought joy to a lot of viewers.

In a post on Instagram, Joyce shared a photo of her old blonde self with a heartfelt message on how grateful she was to become part of the UH family.

Exactly this time last year, I started guesting on @unanghirit as a host, and my life has then changed dramatically. Last year, I was battling a lot of things emotionally, mentally, and spiritually - my weight (as did my hair color hehe) would fluctuate, my moods were erratic, I was exhausted in all aspects of my life, and I could barely hold onto the joy of Christ. By God’s grace Unang Hirit came at a dire time. It made me look forward to waking up early, on days when I felt hopeless - and helped me deal with insomnia, when sleep escapes me. I was forced to travel while it was still dark (which gave me the jumpstart to finally face and get over my anxiety of traveling in a car at night), and I had the chance to travel again, eat good food, meet new people, and kind of pop the abysmal bubble I had been hiding in to avoid pain. To some, it’s just another project, another TV show that I’m hosting in. But to me, it was a lifeline that God threw at the right time to keep me from sinking; to remind me of His love, and His grace, and His mercy and provision, most saturated in the people and teams and adventures that I could’ve only experienced in, and because of, Unang Hirit. Let’s not forget God gave my ‘GB’ unexpectedly through UH, too. Hehehehe. Absolutely honored to still be on this show, one year after - with so much joy and love in my life, I can’t even recognize the girl in this photo. Only by God’s grace. I love you, @unanghirit family!!! Salamat po. ???? #JPThankYouNotes

"Absolutely honored to still be on this show, one year after - with so much joy and love in my life, I couldn’t even recognize the girl in this photo," she  said.

"Only by God’s grace. I love you, (Unang Hirit) family!!! Salamat po," she added.

Joyce also revealed in her thank you note that the hosting stint came at a not-so-joyful time in her life.

"Exactly this time last year, I started guesting on (Unang Hirit) as a host, and my life has then changed dramatically," she said.

"Last year, I was battling a lot of things emotionally, mentally, and spiritually - my weight (as did my hair color hehe) would fluctuate, my moods were erratic, I was exhausted in all aspects of my life, and I could barely hold onto the joy of Christ," she added.

"By God’s grace, Unang Hirit came at a dire time."

Joyce shared that there were times when she would struggle with insomnia and experience anxiety while travelling at night.

"(Unang Hirit) made me look forward to waking up early, on days when I felt hopeless - and helped me deal with insomnia, when sleep escapes me," she said.

"I was forced to travel while it was still dark (which gave me the jumpstart to finally face and get over my anxiety of traveling in a car at night), and I had the chance to travel again, eat good food, meet new people, and kind of pop the abysmal bubble I had been hiding in to avoid pain," she added.

For Joyce, Unang Hirit isn't just another project or TV show that she's hosting in.

"To me, it was a lifeline that God threw at the right time to keep me from sinking; to remind me of His love, and His grace, and His mercy and provision, most saturated in the people and teams and adventures that I could’ve only experience in, and because of, Unang Hirit."
