‘Babae at Baril’ star Janine Gutierrez: I’ve never played a character quite like this

In the psychological thriller "Babae at Baril," Janine Gutierrez plays a department store saleslady living a drab, mundane life until she finds a curious-looking gun on her doorstep.

The gun becomes the catalyst that allows her character to "do anything she wants, talk back to whoever she wants, and even hurt anyone she wants," as it says in the trailer description.

At a press conference on Tuesday, the Kapuso actress said that it was a role she always dreamed of playing.

"Wala. Wala pa akong ganitong character na quite like this, and lagi kong sinasabi na ito talaga 'yung pinangarap kong role," she said.

Careful not to give too much of the plot away, Janine teased that it felt like she was playing two different roles in the movie.

"Para siyang galing probinsya na wala pa masyadong alam sa Manila, very out of place, pero may mangyayari sa buhay niya na sobrang magfli-flick 'yung character niya," she said.

Janine also said that the character is a strong woman—not unlike Grace Evangelista, who she played in the gripping afternoon series Legally Blind.

"Pero this is like a whole other level, so wala pa talaga akong character na quite like this one," she added.

"Babae at Baril," directed by Rae Red, was one of the three Filipino titles that made it to QCinema's "Asia Next Wave" competition, where each entry received a P1.5-million production grant.

It premieres October 15 at the QCinema film festival. — BM, GMA News
