Fil-Am actor Jacob Batalon on his Spider-Man character Ned, his IG handle, and keso de bola
Fil-Hawaiian actor Jacob Batalon, more popularly known as Ned Leeds from a couple of Spider-Man movies, is currently in town.
In an exclusive one-on-one interview with Iya Villania aired on “24 Oras” Friday, the 22-year-old Hollywood actor shared how he was just four years old when he last visited the country.
“I’ve always known it’s a beautiful country, I just haven’t had the opportunity to come,” Jacob said.
The actor, who first appeared as Peter Parker’s friend Ned Leeds in 2017’s “Spider-Man: The Homecoming,” says he’s not much like his character.
“Ned is really smart. I’m not really smart. I’m not as smart as Ned. He’s a good, innocent person, too,” he added, making a self-deprecating joke. “But we both like to have fun.”
He is among the growing number of Asian actors in Hollywood who are currently landing roles left and right — a most welcome development. “It’s finally time we have a voice. For the longest time, Hollywood had no space for minorities in general. I’m very proud and happy to be representing us.”
When not working, Jacob reveals he dabbles in songwriting. “It is my own creative outlet. When I’m not working, I go to auditions, I go to meetings and I write songs. I also spend time with my family.”
On Instagram, the actor goes by the very curious handle, @lifeisaloha, which Jacob says means “nothing. I made it when I was in high school. I assumed no one will find it but that never happened.”
Currently, he has a solid follower count of 1M — plus that blue check of a verified account.
Before their interview ended, Iya had Jacob try several Christmas dishes including puto bumbong, bibingka, and keso de bola on pandesal.
“That cheese is really strong,” he said after a bite. “I think I’ll need a breath mint after.”
