Lea Salonga sings official theme song of 2019 SEA Games 'We Win as One'

The Philippines Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOV) on Tuesday launched the official theme song and music video of the 2019 Southeast Asia Games, “We Win as One.”

Apart from Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, Lea Salonga, who sang the song, and Ryan Cayabyab, who wrote it, were present at the Resorts World Manila.

“It’s always an honor to represent your country,” Lea said.

“But when it’s very specific like this [event], I really have to be mindful of the representation. Every note, dapat walang mali. Everything has to be in its place. There is a greater impression to be made.

“we have to represent the country as well and as  best as we can,” she added.
National Artist and Ramon Magsaysay awardee Ryan Cayabyab shared it took him two sittings to finish the song. “I wrote it first for the finale of the opening ceremony. I wrote it for 11 singers,” he began, adding he wasn’t aware there was going to be just one singer for the recording.

When he learned Lea was going to do it, it took him “One huge reformatting to fit Lea.”

For Cayetano, the SEA Games, happening in November,is all about presenting the best of the Philippines.

“People always think the biggest blessing of the Philippines are its beaches, its mountains. But people forget the number one blessing is the people. We’re presenting our best artists and the best athletes,” he said.
