Gil Cuerva thinks more shows should feature strong women to fight against 'skewed, sexist culture'

Gil Cuerva will be serving us some hot, primetime action as a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent on GMA's upcoming teleserye "Beautiful Justice."

It would be the Kapuso hunk's first action-themed teleserye, and he's both excited and nervous.

"These people are very well-trained. They went through years of vigorous training and I'm supposed to at least show a bit of that in the show as a PDEA agent," Gil told GMA News Online.

"[I can feel the] pressure and it's a difficult task for me to do that, but it’s a task I’m willing to take," he added.

The drama-action series is sanctioned by the PDEA, who is working closely with GMA to give viewers a realistic look into their lives.

But as badass as his role may be, it's Gil's female co-stars that will be turning heads with sheer girl power.

"Beautiful Justice" follows the story of Kitkat, Brie and Alice, played by Bea Binene, Gabbi Garcia and Yasmien Kurdi, who come together to seek justice for the ones they loved and lost.

Gil shared that he's proud to be part of a production with three strong female leads.

"For me, we need a lot of shows that highlight women," he said.

"We need to see that women are strong. I know that's just a really cliché statement, but it's the truth because, until now, a lot of men still have this very wrong and skewed na parang sexist culture na parang 'women, 'di sila malakas,' 'they can't stand up for themselves'," he added.

Gill said he hopes that the show would inspire young girls to grow up strong and independent.

"This show highlights three really strong women who have big losses in their lives and are actually doing something to bring justice to their loved ones who were lost," he said. "Hopefully, this show would inspire a lot of young girls growing up would be strong and independent and stand up for yourselves."

"Beautiful Justice," directed by Mark Reyes V, also stars Derrick Monasterio, Bing Loyzaga, Victor Neri, and Valeen Montenegro.

It will premiere September 9 on GMA-7.
