Michael V. wrote one of the songs in ‘Family History’ and his daughter sang it

It looks like “Family History” is a family affair for Michael V.

It’s a well-known fact that Michael V. took on a variety of roles for his directorial debut: he wrote the movie, acted in it, directed it yes, and with wife Carol, co-produced it.

But it doesn't end there. His daughter Brianna is performing one of the two songs featured in the movie.

Incidentally, Michael V. wrote that. It’s called “Ayoko Na” and apparently, we’re all quite familiar with it.

“That song actually came from Pepito Manaloto,” Carol tells GMA News Online. “Bitoy wrote it for the episode where Julie Anne San Jose and Jake Vargas break up.”

Shortly after the episode was aired late last year, they released the song on Spotify.

Fast-forward to 2019 when “Family History” was already being edited. “May eksena na hindi ma-akma yung nagawang scoring for that particular scene, and when Bitoy looked back, he remembered ‘Ayoko na.’ Parang sakto,” Carol continued.

Bitoy admits, “Yes, it wasn’t really planned. I had a different song prepared for that [scene] pero hindi na muna lalabas siguro.”

According to the married couple, “Ayoko na” fitted the scene like a glove. “Literally and figurately. May scene sa family history na medyo hawig sa tema and when we laid it down sa edit, yung pasok ng lyrics sa actions, sa visuals, sakto talaga,” Bitoy continued.

“Sobrang sakto, nakaka-goosebumps,” Carol added.

But why Brianna?

“I didn't want to have problems with recording artists. There are so many things you have to go through [for that],” Bitoy said.

He initially asked his 21-year-old daughter to just do a demo but “her voice is really good and I trust that’s because of her genes,” the proud father couldn’t help but joke.

“I thought it would be a great idea to give her a break. I hope this does something for her career. Mahilig kasi talaga siya. She’s really talented and I really hope she gets a big break.”

According to Carol, she’d love for Brianna to finish her studies first — she’s taking Theater Arts at Ateneo de Manila University — before she ventures into entertainment. “She likes to sing, she’s super musically-inclined.”

By the way, Brianna was the daughter singing the Up Dharma Down song "Oo" that sparked the idea for the super viral parody "Uh Oh."

“Yep, that’s her,” Michael V. confirms.
