Eddie Garcia named Urian Best Actor for 'ML', is still in critical condition

Veteran actor Eddie Garcia, who remains in critical condition after suffering from a neck cervical fracture, was named Best Actor during the 42nd Gawad Urian Awards on Tuesday.

The 90-year-old was given the "Pinakamahusay na Pangunahing Aktor" award for his performance in the 2018 Cinemalaya film "ML" directed by Benedict Mique Jr.

Garcia played the role of a retired Metrocom colonel who believes he is still living in the Martial Law era.

His Best Actor trophy was brought to the hospital where he has been confined.

Garcia has been in the hospital since June 8 following an incident while shooting for a TV series.

The veteran actor is still "dependent" on a ventilator and medications to support his blood pressure.

While his family has not authorized the withdrawal of life support, they have however agreed to place him on DNR (do-not-resuscitate) status.

His doctors have advised that visitors be limited so as not to compromise the actor's health.

Meanwhile, Cherie Gil was also named "Pinakamahusay na Pangalawang Aktres" for her performance in "Citizen Jake."
