‘Ika-5 Utos’ and ‘Ika-6 na Utos’: Laurice Guillen explains the difference

The upcoming GMA Afternoon Prime show "Ika-5 Utos" has a similar name to its predecessor "Ika-6 na Utos," but the two shows are different, director Laurice Guillen said.

At the press conference of "Ika-5 Utos" on Tuesday, Direk Laurice said that for one thing, the fight scenes in this show will be more serious than the fight scenes in "Ika-6 Na Utos."

"Kung ano ang nasa script, ginagawa ko, if you're talking about the fight scenes, so far naman we've done the scenes na motivated naman lahat at as realistic as possible," Direk Laurice explained.

Furthermore, in keeping with the Commandments they are named after, "Ika-6 Na Utos" is about infidelity and adultery, while "Ika-5 Utos" focuses on death, violence and family conflicts.

"Medyo serious ito. 'Yung 'Ika-6 na Utos' kasi it's about the wife and the mistress, so every time na magkikita talaga ang wife and mistress magkakaroon talaga ng away, pero ito, this is a little bit more, mas mabigat 'yung tema," the director added.

"Ika-5 Utos" follows the story of three families—the Lorenzos, the Buenaventuras and the Manupils—whose bonds will be destroyed by a series of incidents.

Jean Garcia plays Eloisa Lorenzo, whose son Brix gets involved in a hazing incident after joining a fraternity with Kelly Manupil's (Gelli de Belen) son Carlo (Jake Vargas). The hazing results in the death of Clarisse Buenaventura's (Valerie Concepcion) son Leo (Kiko Estrada).

"The hazing is the main issue, pero bago 'yan may two other deaths also, na nangyari, leading up to that. 'Yung una out of neglect, 'uong pangalawa, out of passion, the third one is may intent talaga sa hazing, so 'yun ang tema," Direk Laurice said.

Asked if the network will continue to find story inspiration in the Ten Commandments, senior vice president for Entertainment Lilybeth Rasonable said it is possible.

"Tignan natin. Isa-isahin natin; sayang naman, di ba? Hindi kasi parang may na-build kami na equity so sayang naman and then of course the Bible is a wealth of stories that you can be inspired to do, so puwede," she said.

"Ika-5 Utos" will also star Inah de Belen, Tonton Gutierrez, Antonio Aquitania, Jeric Gonzales, Migo Adecer and Klea Pineda.

It will premiere on September 10, replacing "Contessa." — BM, GMA News
