Rene Garcia of Hotdog band passes away

Hotdog band's Rene Garcia passed away Sunday night due to cardiac arrest.

His brother Dennis Garcia confirmed the news, posting on Facebook, "I will miss you like hell, bro!"

The Hotdog band became famous in the 70s for their distinct music dubbed Manila Sound.

Among the band's OPM hits are "Manila", "Ikaw Ang Miss Universe ng Buhay Ko", "Bongga Ka 'Day", "Annie Batungbakal," "Pers Lab", "Bitin Ako Sa Iyo". "Manila", "Annie Batungbakal", "Bongga Ka 'Day", and "Ikaw Ang Miss Universe ng Buhay Ko" had Rene providing vocals.

Rene and Dennis formed the band which had as female vocalists Ella Del Rosario, Zsa Zsa Padilla, and Maso Diez, among others.

Dennis posted on Facebook a music video of the new song "Sana Naman" he composed with Rene.

"SANA NAMAN" a new original hotdog song... the very last collaboration with my exceptionally gifted brother Rene Garcia. It was a hell of a ride, tol... I will miss you like hell. mismong mismo," Dennis wrote.
