Erik Matti’s ‘BuyBust’ earns praise from Variety magazine
“BuyBust is a superbly executed action film about drug squad members fighting for their lives in a maze-like Manila slum that resembles nothing less than hell on earth,” begins the review of writer Richard Kuipers on international entertainment magazine, Variety.
The review, published online Monday shortly after the movie premiered at the New york Asian Film Festival, sang praise after praise for the new Erik Matti movie, which stars Anne Curtis, Victor Nei, Lao Rodriguez, Nonie Buencamino, and MMA fighter Brandon Vera.
“Director and co-writer Erik Matti has delivered an explosive exercise in kinetic cinema that also offers potent commentary on the devastating social consequences of the Philippine government’s war on drugs,” it continued, going on to say that BuyBust will become a must-see for genre fans.
BuyBust will hit Philippine cinema on August 1. Watch the trailer below and read the complete Variety review here.
