Jake Zyrus considering sex reassignment surgery
Gender reassignment surgery might be in Jake Zyrus' future.
"Definitely in the future, so in the future, probably, I have to go through the same tests again," he told Nelson Canlas "24 Oras" on Sunday.
In 2013, the singer then known as Charice Pempengco came out, and a year later told Oprah Winfrey in an interview, "My soul is male."
He later clarified that he is a transgender man and earlier this year announced his new name, Jake Zyrus.
However, he has no plans at the moment to legally change his name.
"[Jake Zyrus is] my screen name...hindi ko naman papalitan 'yung Pempengco, [and] I won't change Relucio," he said.
Zyrus revealed that he felt caged by the demands of being a female popstar, including wearing skirts and heels, and performing the high-pitched belts Charice had become known for.
However, Jake said he was grateful to his previous persona.
"Lagi kong sinasabi na thankful ako sa kanya...isa sa mga pinaka-importanteng role na ginampanan ko sa buong buhay ko," he said.
In the report he also revealed the contents of his bag: a comb, a man's wallet, gadgets, cologne, and an e-cigarette to relieve stress.
In comparison, as Charice, "'Pag aalis akong ibang bansa, kailangan dalawang malaking maleta dala mo, kasi marami kang dalang mini skirt, tsaka high heels, tsaka gown," Zyrus said.
He also said during the interview that he was "chill" with his new identity, and was all smiles even when asked about his ex-girlfriend Alyssa, with whom he had separated three months ago.
"I'm good, I'm good, I'm happy," the singer laughed. — Margaret Claire Layug/BM, GMA News
