Cherry Pie Picache grateful for court's decision on mother's murder case

The man accused of killing the mother of actress Cherry Pie Picache has been convicted guilty and sentenced to reclusion perpetua, or no less than 40 years of prison term.

Picache's mother, Zenaida Sison, 75, was found stabbed to death inside her house in Quezon City on September 19, 2014, and in the following month, the suspect pleaded guilty.

Michael Flores was declared guilty of robbery with homicide on Thursday, December 10, by Judge Alphonso Ruiz II of Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 216.

Aside from prison term, he is also ordered to pay fines amounting to more than P1.3 million.

Cherry Pie and her family are thankful for the decision of the court and the process with which the case was handled.

She added that the whole family continues to pray for the soul of their mother and the healing and rehabilitation of the suspect as he serves his penalty.

According to the actress in a text message to GMA News Online, "Christmas came early for my family and I. The long and painful wait is finally over. Justice is served. He is now convicted guilty, sentenced to life imprisonment. We are grateful with this decision and how the court and Sala of Judge Ruiz swiftly handled our case."

"It is now our prayer that us the victim can truly begin our journey of healing and forgiving. For our offender, the journey of acknowledging the evil that he has done, repentance, serving his penalty and to rehabilitate and to restore the goodness and dignity that he lost," she added.

The actress also expressed her gratitude to everyone who has been there for her family throughout the ordeal.

"We pray that our mother's soul is now truly at peace because justice prevailed. We thank all our friends and everyone who prayed for us. Thank you." —Bianca Rose Dabu/AT, GMA News
