PhilPop 2014 prize goes to inspirational song by Jungee Marcelo and sung by Kyla
“Salbabida”, an inspirational song composed by Jungee Marcelo and interpreted by Kapuso artist Kyla, was adjudged Grand Winner in the finals of the Third Philippine Popular Music Festival (PhilPop 2014) held at the Meralco Theater in Pasig City last Saturday.
"Salbabida is very, very inspirational. Ang ganda ng mensahe na ibinibigay niya. Sa lahat ng mga tao na nagsa-struggle at nagda-doubt, it is an inspiring song that will help them, napaka-uplifitng niya," Kyla said in an interview with GMA News Online during the PhilPop 2014 launch.
First runner up honors went to another inspirational song, “Awit Mo'y Nandito Pa”, from composer Ronaldo “Toto” Sorioso and interpreted by Aldrich Talonding and James Bucong.
Adjudged second runner up was “Torpe” by songwriter Daryl Ong and interpreted by GMA Network's "Sunday All-Stars" artist Kris Lawrence.
PhilPop is an annual songwriting competition for amateur and professional composers who are Filipinos or of Filipino descent residing in the Philippines.
“The competition not only aims to celebrate the talent of Filipino songwriting, but to glorify the contributions of songwriters and composers to the Filipino music industry,” PhilPop said on its website.
The competition also seeks to "provide a channel (through) which Filipino songwriters can create new songs, discover new expressions or genres in popular music (and) spark a renewed awareness, enthusiasm, and pride in (the) Philippine.”
According to the competition mechanics, “lyrics may be in Filipino, a Philippine regional language, a Philippine dialect, English, or any combination thereof." — Earl Victor L. Rosero/JDS, GMA News
