Afternoon class suspension on Thursday, October 10, 2024
Afternoon face-to-face classes were suspended in several areas on Thursday, October 10, 2024 due to vog following the recent activity of Taal Volcano.
Areas that announced suspension of afternoon face-to-face classes were:
- Balayan, Batangas -- all levels, private and public
- Nasugbu, Batangas -- all levels, private and public
- Lian, Batangas -- all levels, private and public
Residents were encouraged to wear facemasks when outdoors.
According to PHIVOLCS on Thursday, a small two-minute phreatic eruption event was reported in Taal Volcano on Wednesday.
Phreatic eruptions are steam-driven explosions that occur when water beneath the ground or on the surface is heated by magma, lava, hot rocks, or new volcanic deposits, PHIVOLCS said.
A voluminous emission of plumes of up to 3,000 meters tall were observed from Taal Volcano, which drifted to the north-northwest and northeast directions.
