Here are alternate routes on NLEX amid Marilao Interchange Bridge repair

Motorists using North Luzon Expressway going to and from Manila may take the following alternate routes as the Marilao Interchange Bridge undergoes repairs, the NLEX Corporation said Saturday:

For motorists heading to Bulacan and Pampanga:

  • Take NLEX Karuhatan Exit via NLEX Harbor Link Interchange / NLEX Paso de Blas Northbound (NB) Exit / NLEX Meycauayan NB Exit going to MacArthur Highway;
  • Re-enter at NLEX Ciudad de Victoria NB or NLEX Bocaue Interchange.

For motorists coming from Bulacan and Pampanga and heading to Manila:

  • Take NLEX Bocaue Southbound (SB) Interchange Exit or NLEX Ciudad de Victoria SB exit;
  • Turn right to MacArthur Highway;
  • Re-enter at NLEX Meycauayan SB.

NLEX Corporation said three lanes are passable on the NLEX northbound in Lawang Bato, Valenzuela on Saturday morning.

A zipper lane has been opened before the Lias Overpass to after Marilao Interchange for northbound traffic, it added.

At the Marilao Interchange Bridge going to MacArthur Highway and San Jose Del Monte, only class 1 vehicles are allowed to pass. Class 2 and 3 vehicles are temporarily prohibited from using the bridge. NLEX Corp. is implementing a stop-and-go traffic scheme in the area.

NLEX Corporation is considering closing more lanes to allow workers to finish repair work faster, according to a report by Christian Maño on Super Radyo dzBB Saturday.

The company meanwhile, is still weighing the Department of Transportation's call for the toll road company to waive fees in affected areas amid the heavy traffic due to the Marilao Interchange Bridge accident.

On Wednesday, two northbound lanes at Marilao Interchange Bridge were temporarily closed due to a road crash involving two trucks. The bridge was damaged.

The NLEX Corporation on Thursday said slow-moving traffic is expected as the repair of the Marilao Interchange Bridge may take two to three weeks after the accident.

As a result of the damage caused by a tanker truck, travel time increased by as much as one and a half to two hours on Thursday, despite the implementation of counterflow measures on some parts of the southbound lane. —KG, GMA Integrated News
