No toll fees on NLEX, SCTEX, others on select hours on Christmas, New Year
Motorists can enjoy a toll-free passage during select hours along some of the country’s major expressways this Christmas and New Year, the Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) announced Monday.
As part of the holiday festivities, MPTC said toll fees will be waived during the following:
- December 24 (10 p.m.) to December 25 (6 a.m.)
- December 31 (10 p.m.) to January 1 (6 a.m.)
This covered the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), NLEX Connector, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), and the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX).
MPTC said that the toll fees will be waived for motorists of Class 1, 2, and 3 vehicles exiting these expressways until 6 a.m. on the mentioned dates.
The San Miguel Corporation (SMC) also said Friday that toll fees on the Skyway System, NAIA Expressway (NAIAX), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), STAR Tollway, and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) would be waived during specific hours for the holidays.
Over the weekend, travelers started facing hours of heavy traffic en route to the provinces as the holiday rush intensified just days before Christmas.
The holiday congestion extended to transportation hubs, delaying trips from the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), which recorded a record-high 218,000 passengers on Saturday, December 21.
At the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), operators expected 2.296 million passengers between December 20, 2024 and January 3, 2025, marking a 10.95% increase from the same period in 2024. —Giselle Ombay/KG, GMA Integrated News
