Motorists were advised to take alternate routes as the F. Manalo Bridge in Barangay Manggahan, Pasig City was temporarily closed to traffic starting Monday, October 7.

The bridge will undergo repair and rehabilitation to be conducted by the Department of Public Works and Highways, according to a report by James Agustin on Unang Balita on Monday.

The closure of the bridge has affected not just motorists and pedestrians but also tricycle drivers.

Authorities said the bridge will be closed until further notice.

Motorists may take any of the following alternate routes:

  • Marcos Highway - for all vehicles
  • Ortigas Avenue - for all vehicles
  • Circulo Verde Bridge - passable from 6 a.m. to 12 mn except for trucks, PUJs, motorcycles, and UV Express

F. Manalo Bridge was damaged last July at the height of the effects of the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Super Typhoon Carina.

At least 13 barges and boats drifted due to strong current in Marikina River that time, hitting the F. Manalo Bridge in Pasig City.

A portion of the bridge was damaged then. Some of the boats turned upside down while others were stuck underneath the bridge. Still others were swept away by the strong current.

The bridge was temporarily opened to pedestrians and tricycles last September. —KG, GMA Integrated News
