Number coding not suspended for SONA 2024 — MMDA

The number coding scheme in Metro Manila will not be suspended on Monday, July 22, the day of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s third State of the Nation Address (SONA), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said.

In a report by Christian Mano on Super Radyo dzBB, motorists are advised that number coding will be in effect for the whole metropolis, including Quezon City where the SONA will take place at the Batasang Pambansa Complex.

According to acting MMDA Chairperson Romando Artes, there is the possibility of more vehicles on the road that would add to the volume of traffic if the MMDA lifts the number coding scheme.

For Monday, vehicles with plate numbers ending in the numbers 1 and 2 are not allowed to be on the roads from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The MMDA earlier announced they have alternate traffic routes and will deploy 2,000 personnel to provide assistance to the expected heavy traffic, specifically in Quezon City.—RF, GMA Integrated News
