MIAA temporarily suspends operations due to red lightning alert

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) temporarily suspended flight and ground operations on Saturday afternoon due to a lightning red alert. 

"The MIAA Airport Ground Operations and Safety Division (AGOSD) has issued a Lightning Red Alert at 4:23PM / 1623H. Flight and ground operations are temporarily suspended," MIAA said on its Facebook page. 

"This alert is a safety measure taken to prevent untoward incidents from happening when lightning is prevalent in the immediate area and may endanger personnel, passengers, and even flight operations," added MIAA. 

The lightning alert was lowered to yellow at 4:40 p.m.

"The MIAA Airport Ground Operations and Safety Division (AGOSD) has lowered the Lightning Red Alert to Yellow as of 4:40PM / 1640H. Flight and ground operations at NAIA have resumed," MIAA said.
