LRMC: Longer LRT1 waiting time due to rail replacement works at Baclaran station
Passengers of Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT1) should expect a longer waiting time for trains to arrive as rail replacement works at the line’s Baclaran Station are seen to temporarily affect operations, private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) said Wednesday.
In an advisory, LRMC said it will implement rail replacement activities in the reversing or turnback area of its Baclaran Station from September 20 to 24 as part of the company’s continuous railway upgrade program.
With this, the company said LRT1's headway or the time interval between two successive trains will be increased from the current four minutes to approximately five minutes.
The riding public is advised to plan their trips ahead of time given the temporary adjustments in LRT1 operations, said LRMC.
Operations of LRT1 are expected to normalize by Monday, September 25.
LRMC said it will close a section of Baclaran Station reversing tracks resulting in constraints in train movements, train deployment, and usage of station platforms for loading and unloading passengers “to complete the necessary engineering works efficiently and safely.”
“As the LRT1 system continues to cater to our growing ridership, LRMC commits to providing a safe and reliable transportation system. We would like to ask for the kind understanding of our commuters and apologize in advance for the temporary inconvenience as we conduct these rail renewal activities needed for improved LRT1 experience,” said LRMC chief operating officer Rolando Paulino
“We also continue with the deployment of our new 4th generation trains to carry more passengers, with five train sets already in commercial service,” he said.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
