MMDA releases traffic advisory, alternate routes for SONA 2023
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday issued a traffic advisory for the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday, July 24, at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.
"As part of its traffic management plan, the MMDA shall implement a zipper lane or counterflow on the southbound portions of Commonwealth Avenue to give way to vehicles of government officials and guests going to the complex as needed," the agency said.
The MMDA advised motorists to take alternate routes as traffic may be heavy along Commonwealth Avenue and in the vicinity of Batasang Pambansa on Monday.
Below are the alternate routes given by MMDA:
Northbound: Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC) to Fairview
- from Elliptical Road, take North Avenue
- turn right at Mindanao Avenue
- turn right to Sauyo Road or take Quirino Highway to reach the point of destination.
Southbound: Fairview to QMC
- from Commonwealth Avenue, take Sauyo Road or Quirino Highway
- turn left at Mindanao Avenue
- turn left at North Avenue to reach the point of destination.
Northbound: QMC to Fairview via Marikina
for light vehicles from C5 Road:
- turn left at Magiting St.
- turn right at Maginhawa St.
- turn left at Mayaman St. to Kalayaan Avenue to reach point of destination.
for trucks from C5 Road along Katipunan Avenue
take Luzon Flyover
turn left at Congressional Avenue to reach the point of destination.
The MMDA said it will coordinate with the Quezon City government in intensifying clearing operations to ensure that alternate routes are passable.
It also said traffic advisory signage will be installed along alternate routes to guide motorists.
Zipper lanes and affected roads will also have plastic barriers and traffic cones, the MMDA said.
Earlier, the agency said the number-coding scheme will still be implemented on SONA Day on July 24. —KG, GMA Integrated News
