PCG offers 'libreng sakay' to students on first day of classes in 2022
Students in Quezon City and Manila will be able to avail of free bus rides on Monday, the first day of the School Year 2022-2023, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Sunday.
PCG Commandant Coast Guard Admiral Artemio Abu said two to three Coast Guard buses will be deployed from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Quezon City and Manila.
The route on Monday morning will be as follows:
- Quezon City Hall
- University Belt in Manila
- Luneta Park in Manila
- Quezon City
In the afternoon, the PCG buses will start their route from University Belt.
“Simpleng tulong natin ito sa mga estudyante sa pagsisimula ng School Year 2022-2023. Ramdam natin ang hirap na buhay ngayon dahil sa patuloy na pagtaas ng pamasahe. Kaya sa inisiyatibong ito, gusto natin na kahit papaano’y masuportahan ang mga kabataan sa pagbabawas ng gastusin sa unang araw ng klase,” Abu said.
(This is a simple way for us to help students as they start School Year 2022-2023. Life is hard these days due to the increase in transportation fare. With this incentive, we hope to support the youth somehow by lessening their expenses on the first day of classes.)
However, in an update on Monday, the PCG said it has also made its free rides available to employees going to work on Monday.
The PCG reminded students who will ride their buses to wear face masks and sanitize their hands with alcohol to protect themselves against COVID-19.
