Sea vessel trips on Matnog, Sorsogon-Allen, Northern Samar route suspended due to Agaton

The Philippine Coast Guard Sorsogon Station on Sunday issued an advisory suspending sea vessel trips on the Matnog, Sorsogon-Allen, Northern Samar route due to Tropical Storm Agaton, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said.

"Coast Guard Station Sorsogon released at 0715H today a Sea Travel Advisory suspending vessel trips in the Matnog, Sorsogon - Allen, Northern Samar route following the hoisting of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal # 1 over Northern Samar and other provinces in the Visayas and Mindanao," the PPA said in a post on Facebook.

"All trips of vessels enroute to Eastern Samar, the rest of Samar, Northern Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, and Camotes Islands are hereby suspended due to Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 being hoisted in the area," the advisory from PCG Sorsogon Station read.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said it has raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 over the southern portion of Eastern Samar, the extreme southern portion of Samar, and the northern portion of Dinagat Islands.

TCWS No. 1 on the other hand was raised over the rest of Eastern Samar, the rest of Samar, Northern Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Camotes Islands, Surigao del Norte, and the rest of Dinagat Islands.

PAGASA said sea travel may be risky in the next 24 hours for most seacraft over the seaboards of areas under TCWS Nos. 2 and 1 as coastal waters will be rough to very rough. Waves may reach up to 5 meters tall.

As for the remaining seaboards of the country not under any TCWS or gale warning, coastal waters will be moderate to rough (with waves up to 3.4 meters) in the next 24 hours. Sea travel may be risky for those with small seacraft. —KG, GMA News
