Commonwealth-University Avenue zipper lane reopens to ease heavy traffic
The Commonwealth-University Avenue zipper lane reopened on Monday morning as a solution to the heavy flow of traffic along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.
The zipper lane will be open to vehicles bound for the University of the Philippines, C.P. Garcia Avenue and Katipunan from 6 to 11 a.m. from Monday to Friday, according to a report by James Agustin on GMA News' Unang Balita.
“Bilang tugon sa bumibigat na daloy ng trapiko tuwing umaga sa kahabaan ng Commonwealth Avenue patungong PHILCOA at Elliptical Road, muling bubuksan ng Pamahalaang Lungsod Quezon, sa tulong ng MMDA at EEI, ang COMMONWEALTH-UNIVERSITY AVENUE ZIPPER LANE,” said the Quezon City government in a Facebook post last Friday.
(As a response to the heavy traffic in the mornings along Commonwealth Avenue going to Philcoa and Elliptical Road, the Quezon City government, in cooperation with MMDA and EEI, will reopen the Commonwealth-University Avenue zipper lane.)
The zipper lane is located on the eastbound lane of Commonwealth Avenue near Philcoa.
The entrance of the zipper lane is located at the UP-Technohub U-turn slot, while the exit is at the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and University Avenue by the entrance to the UP campus.
Stop-and-go traffic schemes are implemented for cars taking a left turn toward University Avenue, with Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and Department of Public Order and Safety officers personnel manning the traffic.
The road was opened at around 6:15 a.m. Monday due to a short delay with signages needed for the road. —Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/KG, GMA News
