EDSA Busway starts interim operations with initial 150 buses along Monumento-PITX route

The EDSA Busway on Wednesday started its interim operations initially deploying 150 out of the 550 authorized buses along the route of Monumento to Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).

In a joint statement, the Department of Transportation, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority announced the opening.

“The start of the interim operations of the EDSA Busway will complement the operations of the MRT-3 line and its bus augmentation program,” the transport agencies said.

According to them, the interim operation aims to help transport commuters in Metro Manila amid the general community quarantine (GCQ) in light of the COVID-19 threat.

The transport agencies said buses from Monumento to Quezon Avenue will use the following bus stops located on the curbside for the meantime to load and unload passengers:

  • Bagong Barrio
  • LRT Balintawak
  • Kaingin Road
  • LRT Muñoz Station
  • MRT North Avenue Station (southbound: loading only; northbound: unloading only)
  • MRT Quezon Avenue Station (southbound: loading only; northbound: unloading only)

Keeping the existing setup, buses will shift using the median lanes with the partial operability of the busway section from Quezon Avenue all the way to Estrella, according to the transport agencies.

Upon exiting Estrella, buses will be allowed to load and unload passengers at the following curbside stops from Buendia to the PITX:

  • Buendia
  • Ayala (southbound: unloading only; northbound; loading and unloading)
  • Magallanes
  • Evangelista/Malibay
  • Taft Avenue (southbound; unloading only; northbound: loading only)
  • Roxas Boulevard
  • Macapagal Avenue
  • SM Mall of Asia
  • PITX

The transport agencies said the buses deployed on Wednesday are in addition to the buses already deployed under the MRT-3 Bus Augmentation Program.

They also underscored that no fare increase should be imposed.

“The EDSA Busway aims to significantly cut travel time from Monumento to PITX from the usual 2 to 3 hours because of traffic, to just 45 minutes to 1 hour,” the transport agencies said. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
