QC offers 2 more Libreng Sakay routes to assist commuters amid GCQ
The local government of Quezon City on Tuesday announced it will offer two new routes to its Libreng Sakay program to assist commuters.
These are:
Route 1: SM Fairview - Quezon Avenue MRT via Commonwealth Avenue:
- Starting point: SM Fairview
- Pick up points
- Atherton / FCM
- Dona Carmen / Don Fabian (Wilcon)
- Litex
- Commonweath Market / Riverside
- Batasan
- Don Antonio
- Luzon / Tandang Sora (Puregold)
- Drop off point: Quezon Avenue MRT
Route 2: Novaliches Bayan - North Ave MRT (via Quirino Highway - Mindanao Ave)
- Starting point: Nova Bayan
- Drop off point: North Ave MRT
The two new routes will be serviced by 14 buses.
The said routes were prioritized after many commuters were stranded in these areas on Monday, the first day that Metro Manila was placed under the less strict general community quarantine (GCQ). Under GCQ, more people were allowed to go out of their homes to work.
“We recognize that a lot of people, mostly workers, are already returning to their offices but transport vehicles are few. We have to help augment,” Quezon City Assistant City Administrator for Operations Alberto Kimpo said.
The Libreng Sakay program for frontliners is ongoing, the local government unit said.
The LGU said the general public and Quezon City residents can avail of the Libreng Sakay rides.
Kimpo said the buses have markers to remind passengers to observe social distancing as part of measures to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.
"Wearing of proper face mask will be strictly observed and is expected of our passengers,” Kimpo added. —KG, GMA News
