MMDA advises public of traffic disruption, chokepoint areas during SEA Games 2019
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday advised the public of traffic disruption and chokepoint areas during the Southeast Asian Games 2019 starting on November 30.
The following thoroughfares were identified by the MMDA as chokepoint areas during the 12-day activity of the SEA Games:
- SLEX northbound
- Mindanao Avenue-North Ave to NLEX
- Roxas Blvd corner Buendia
- Roxas Blvd corner P. Ocampo
- Roxas Blvd P. Burgos
- Taft Avenue corner P. Ocampo
- Adriatico RMSC Area,
- Quirino corner Adriatico
- Shaw Boulevard corner Pioneer
- N. Domingo-FilOil
- Lawton Avenue corner Bayani Road
In a statement, MMDA chair Danilo Lim said the agency will implement a stop-and-go traffic scheme on EDSA and other major roads and intersections to give way to convoys heading to the venues.
Traffic will also be stopped temporarily as delegates’ convoys pass through roads and intersections, the MMDA added.
The agency also said the following venues within Metro Manila are where thousands of athletes, sports officials, coaches, spectators and guests are expected to gather:
- Rizal Memorial Sports Complex
- Cuneta Astrodome
- SM Mall of Asia Arena
- SM MOA Skating Rink
- World Trade Center
- Philippine International Convention Center Forum
- SM Megamall
- Filoil Flying V Centre
- Filinvest City
- University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman Gym
- Marine Corps, Muntinlupa Sports Complex
- Starmall EDSA
- Makati Coliseum
- Manila Hotel tent
- SM Megamall Ice Rink
- World Trade Center
- Philsports Arena
- Amoranto Sports Complex
- Manila Polo Club
Convoys carrying delegates will use the yellow lane, flyovers and underpasses while traveling along EDSA, MMDA said.
Lim noted that traffic personnel have started conducting clearing operations along the routes with the assistance of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and concerned local government units.
MMDA added that the other SEA Games Clusters where traffic congestion is also expected are in Clark, Subic, and Southern Luzon, among others.
“The MMDA’s preparation is in coordination with the Philippine Sea Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC), PNP, LGUs (local government units), government agencies, and stakeholders,” MMDA said.
