Palace: Work in gov’t offices, SUCs suspended on Jan. 2, 2019

Work in government offices under the Executive branch and in state universities and colleges is suspended on January 2, 2019, Malacañang announced on Monday.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea issued Memorandum Circular 54 directing the work suspension except for agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic  and health services and other vital services, as well as disaster preparedness and response.

The Palace left the suspension of work in other branches of government, independent commissions or bodies, as well as private companies to the discretion of their respective heads and employers.

The circular said the suspension was made to give government employees “full opportunity” to celebrate New Year’s Day (January 1), a regular holiday, with their families and loved ones. — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
