PAGASA SAYS

LPA east of Surigao del Sur unlikely to become a tropical depression

The low pressure area (LPA) east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone, according to PAGASA.

“Sa ngayon naman po, maliit ang tsansa nito maging bagyo, pero posibleng tumawid ito dito nga sa central at southern part na ating bansa,” PAGASA assistant weather services chief Chris Perez told Unang Balita in an interview.

(Right now, the chances of it becoming a tropical cyclone are small, but it is possible that it will cross the central and southern parts of our country.)

Due to this, Perez advised people in Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Northern Mindanao to monitor updates on the LPA as well as on possible localized thunderstorms and rainfall.

“Kaya sa mga kababayan po natin dito sa may bandang Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao area ay patuloy pong mag-monitor sa ating update at sa mga possible na localized thunderstorm at rainfall advisory na ipapalabas po ng ating mga PAGASA regional services division,” he added.

(So to our countrymen here in the Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Northern Mindanao areas, continue to monitor our updates as well as possible localized thunderstorm and rainfall advisories that will be issued by our PAGASA regional services divisions.)

In its 4 a.m. 24-hour tropical cyclone formation outlook, PAGASA said the LPA at 2 a.m. was spotted 220 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

“As of 2:00 AM today, 27 March 2025, the Low Pressure area being monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and has an ‘UNLIKELY’ chance of development into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours,” PAGASA said.

In its 24-hour public weather forecast, PAGASA said the LPA is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Davao Region.
