Dangerous heat index seen in 2 Luzon areas on March 26, 2025

Heat index to hit dangerous level in 2 Luzon areas on March 25, 2025

The heat index is forecast reach the dangerous level in two areas in Luzon on March 26, Wednesday, weather service PAGASA said.

Based on its 5 p.m. March 25 bulletin, the state weather bureau said its monitoring stations expect a heat index of 47 degrees Celsius in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, and 43 degrees Celsius in San Ildelfonso, Bulacan.

A heat index between 42 to 51 degrees Celsius falls under the "danger" classification, posing health risks such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke with continuing activity.

In Metro Manila, a high of 39 degrees Celsius is expected to hit the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Pasay City while Science Garden, Quezon City could reach up to 38 degrees Celsius.

A heat index from 33 to 41 degrees Celsius falls under the "extreme caution" category, where heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible, and continuing activity could lead to heat stroke.

The heat index measures how hot it feels to the human body, factoring in humidity along with the actual air temperature.

PAGASA has urged the public to limit outdoor activity, remain hydrated, and wear fresh clothes to avoid heat-related illnesses. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/ VDV/RF, GMA Integrated News
