PAGASA: LPA inside PAR has 'medium' chance of becoming cyclone

A low pressure area (LPA) observed inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility has a "medium" chance of developing into a tropical depression within 24 hours, weather bureau PAGASA said Tuesday.

In a Facebook post, PAGASA said the LPA was monitored at 2 p.m.

For now, the state weather bureau expects a shear line and the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan to bring rains over some areas of Luzon.

According to its 4 p.m. daily weather forecast Tuesday, PAGASA said Metro Manila, Aurora, CALABARZON, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Marinduque, and Oriental Mindoro will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line.

These moderate to heavy with at times intense rains may trigger possible flash floods or landslides.

The easterlies, meanwhile, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms that are expected to persist over Davao Region and Soccskargen.

The same weather conditions will affect Palawan due to the trough of the LPA.

Cloudy skies with rains will persist over Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region due to the Amihan.

These conditions may result in moderate to at times heavy rains that could trigger flash floods or landslides.

The Amihan will also cause partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over the Ilocos Region and the rest of Central Luzon.

The rest of the country will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.

These severe thunderstorms may cause flash floods and landslides.

State meteorologists said the northern and eastern sections of the country will experience moderate to strong wind conditions and moderate to rough coastal water conditions.

Winds will be moderate to strong while coastal waters will be moderate to rough throughout the rest of Luzon and Visayas.

The rest of Mindanao will see light to moderate wind conditions and slight to moderate coastal water conditions.

Sunrise in Metro Manila will be 6:21 a.m. Wednesday. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/ VDV, GMA Integrated News
