Auring, Kiko, Mirasol make it to PAGASA's list of 2025 tropical cyclone names

Auring, Emong, Kiko, and Mirasol, are just some of the tropical cyclone names that the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) identified for 2025.

The state weather bureau assigned a tropical cyclone name for each of the 25 letters of the alphabet, save for letters X and ñ.

Here is the complete list of tropical cyclone names for 2025:

2. Bising
3. Crising
4. Dante
5. Emong
6. Fabian
7. Gorio
8. Huaning
9. Isang
10. Jacinto
11. Kiko
12. Lannie
13. Mirasol
14. Nando
15. Opong
16. Paolo
17. Quedan
18. Ramil
19. Salome
20. Tino
21. Uwan
22. Verbena
23. Wilma
24. Yasmin
25. Zoraida

In the event that the number of tropical cyclones exceeds 25, PAGASA also prepared the following auxiliary names:

• Alamid
• Bruno
• Conching
• Dolor
• Ernie
• Florante
• Gerardo
• Hernan
• Isko
• Jerome

The Philippines was hit by at least 18 weather disturbances in 2024, the last of which was Tropical Depression Romina in December.

From October to November 2024 alone, at least six tropical cyclones struck the Philippines.

These are:

• Kristine (Trami)
• Leon (Kong-Rey)
• Marce (Yinxing)
• Nika (Toraji)
• Ofel (Usagi)
• Pepito (Man-Yi)
