First day of 2025 will be rainy in parts of PH due to ITCZ, shear line, Amihan
An Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), shear line and the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) will affect the country on Wednesday, bringing rains on New Year's Day, PAGASA reported.
The ITCZ will be affecting Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan.
Visayas, Caraga, Davao Region, Palawan, Romblon, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ with the possibility that flash floods or landslides will occur due to moderate to heavy rains.
A shear line meanwhile will affect the eastern section of Northern and Central Luzon.
Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Apayao, Aurora, Bulacan, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line. Flash floods or landslides may occur due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
The Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) on the other hand will affect the rest of Northern Luzon.
Batanes will have cloudy skies with rains due to the Northeast Monsoon with the possibility that flash floods or landslides will occur due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
The Ilocos Region, the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, and Nueva Vizcaya will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the Northeast Monsoon but this will have no significant impact.
The rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the shear line with the possibility that flash floods or landslides will occur during severe thunderstorms.
The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the ITCZ. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may occur.
The northern and western sections of Northern Luzon will have moderate to strong winds moving northeastward while coastal waters will be moderate to rough.
The rest of the country will have light to moderate winds moving in the east to northeast direction while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
