Shear line, trough of tropical depression to bring rains over several areas
A shear line and the trough of a tropical depression will bring rains over several areas on Sunday, according to PAGASA's weather forecast.
Visayas, Bicol Region, Calabarzon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Dinagat Islands will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line, where the northeasterly wind flow and easterlies meet. Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains may possibly result in flash floods or landslides.
Zamboanga Peninsula, Palawan, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi may expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough or extension of a tropical depression. Flash floods or landslides may result due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
Kalayaan Islands in Palawan will have intense to torrential rains of more than 200 mm, according to PAGASA's heavy rainfall outlook.
As of 3 a.m., the tropical depression was located 620 km south of Kalayaan (outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility), packing maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h and with gustiness of up to 70 km/h. It is moving north northeastward at 20 km/h.
"Posibleng pumasok ng Philippine Area of Responsibility ang bagyo... At hindi rin natin inaalis ang posibilidad na magtaas ng tropical cyclone wind signal sa area ng Kalayaan Islands," PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.
(The tropical depression may possibly enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility... And we are not discounting the possibility that a tropical cyclone wind signal will be raised in the area of Kalayaan Islands.)
The tropical depression will be called Romina.
Quezon, Camarines Norte, and the rest of Palawan will have heavy to intense rains measuring 100 to 200 mm, while moderate to heavy rains of 50-100 mm may be expected over Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, and Northern Samar.
The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms also due to the trough of a tropical depression. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may occur.
Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon meanwhile will have cloudy skies with rains due to the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan). Some areas may possibly have flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
The rest of Luzon on the other hand may expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the monsoon, but with no significant impact.
Coastal waters will be rough in Northern Luzon and the eastern section of Central and Southern Luzon, and moderate to rough in Visayas, the rest of Luzon, and the northeastern section of Mindanao.
In the rest of Mindanao, coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
